League Divisions
The core Amherst Youth Basketball League consists of separate girls and boys divisions.  Play begins for grades 3-8 during the week of November 1, 2010.  You will be notified about one week prior to this date of when your first practice is.  Boys divisions 3-6 use the 28.5 inch ball along with all the girl's divisions; boys divisions 7 and 8 use 30 inch ball.

The Boys' divisions are grouped by grade level, as follows:
3rd Grade
4th Grade
5th Grade
6th Grade
7th Grade
8th Grade
High School (for boys not playing jv or varsity basketball)

The Girls' divisions are also by grade level as follows:
3rd and 4th Grade
5th and 6th Grade
7th and 8th Grade
High School (for girls not playing varsity basketball)

3rd & 4th Grade Boys and Girls Divisions

This year we again will have 3rd graders to form a 3rd/4th grade level in both the boys and girls divisions. They will use the smaller size basketball (28.5") and we will limit the number of players on the court from the usual five players to four.  This will give them more space and allow the players to get more "touches".  Also, this division will have more practice time than the other divisions to give the coaches more time to teach the fundamentals.  These divisions also are limited to eight players per team.   All other divisions have a maximum of nine players.

Boys High School Division

The High School League is available to players in grades 9-12 who are NOT playing on a JV or Varsity basketball team. Residency requirements apply. Play will begin on the first day of play, November 14, 2010, beginning at 6:00pm at Clearfield Recreation Center.  We urge you to register on line before November 14th but you may register in person on November 14.  Please be ready to play and bring the registration fee of $115 payable by cash or check (made out to Amherst Youth Basketball) if you haven't already paid.   Note that the HS division plays only on Sunday nights through mid March.

Once the season officially begins, players will play for one hour each Sunday in the 6:00 -10:00pm time frame.  There are a few weeks of scrimmaging before the players are divided into teams. Last year, this division grew to 12 teams.  The teams then play two weeks of a basketfest format followed by games for the remainder of the season including double elimination playoffs. With the exception of evaluations and basketfest, this division consists exclusively of games (i.e., no practices). Two referees are assigned to each game. As with the other divisions, players get jerseys and trophies for the playoff winners and runner-ups.

AYB Girls High School Division

AYB is pleased to announce that we will continue with the High School Girls division again this year. This division is for high school girls wishing to play organized basketball in our league who are NOT playing on a varsity team; junior varsity players may play in the AYB high school girls division.   Play will begin November 6, 2010.

AYB recognizes the busy schedules and many commitments of high school students. Given that, this division will play one game per week on Saturday afternoons at Clearfield usually between the hours of 3 and 5pm. The fee is $115 including jerseys and a regular game format with coaches and referees. League residency requirements apply to this division: must be a resident of the Town of Amherst and/or residing in the Amherst, Sweet Home or Williamsville Central School districts.

Please register online before the deadline of November 6, 2010.  You may also register in person on November 6 at 4pm which is the first day of play for this division.  This division will always play at Clearfield and the times for the games are 3, 4, or 5pm.
