Playoff Rules Amherst Youth Basketball 2010-2011 (rev. 1/31/2010) www.amherst-basketball.com Substitution Lists: Coaches must exchange substitution lists before the start of the game. Fouling Out: When a player fouls out of the game, they are out, even if this leaves a team with fewer than 5 players. Overtime: In the case of a game ending in a tie: There will be a 2-minute overtime, which starts with a jump ball. Each team will have 1 timeout during the overtime (timeouts do not carry over). Each coach chooses 5 players from their team who will participate. No substitutions during the overtime. Clock stops as it does during the last 2 minutes of a game. Team fouls continue to accumulate. If this overtime ends in a tie, go to 3a. A coach may play the same 5 players if he/she wishes. Defense (reminder): Only person-to-person defense is permitted in AYB (with the exception of the H.S. league). Coaches should make sure their own team is adhering to this policy. Here are some guidelines: A defensive player must be within 6 feet of the player s/he is guarding and in an active guarding position. A defensive player does not have to go and chase the person they are guarding out of the 3-point arc but the player must be within 6 feet of the arc. For divisions in which “double teaming” is allowed, multiple players may guard the person with the ball and only the person with the ball. A defensive player (especially a smart, talented, player) who is guarding a person away from the ball may not anticipate a pass by playing the area where a pass is expected or by double-teaming a player who does not have the ball. A defensive player guarding a player taking the ball in from out of bounds may not double-team a player on the court until such player has the ball. |
